Mapping it out

Early this morning, my dad and I boarded a train from Krakow to Warsaw. Luckily, we were the only ones in our carriage meant for 6, so we were able to each take up a few seats and sleep. When we got to Warsaw, my dad dropped me off where I'm staying before he went to the airport to fly home.

I'm staying in a studio apartment for the next two weeks, which means that I'm living on my own (and cooking for myself!) for the first time. After my dad left, I explored the area around my apartment for a little, and also walked to the synagogue and main street to see how far they were from where I'm staying. It's a nice walk, and although Warsaw is full of skyscrapers and huge business buildings, it also has many parks from what I've seen--hopefully the weather will get better so I can spend more time outside!

Anyway, in my time here in Warsaw I'll be doing some writing, and also some follow-up research on all that we discovered and accomplished in the earlier weeks of this trip. There are two central archives to visit here, one with records not yet 100 years old, called the USC, and one with records older than 100 years old, called AGAD. There's also a museum/center called the Jewish Historical Institute, and they have some records there as well. I'm hoping to mainly access birth and marriage records for as much as my extended family as I can, but a main priority is requesting birth records for Papa Joe and his siblings, and Mama Manya and her siblings, all from the USC. I saw where the Jewish Historical Institute and USC are located today, so I think I'll start by visiting those tomorrow morning. Wish me luck on the next leg of my adventure!
